Phlebotomy Training

Marmara University Vocational School of Health Services Medical Laboratory Techniques Program organized "Preanalytical Stage-Phlebotomy Training" with the contributions of the Turkish Biochemical Society (TBD) Preanalytical Phase Working Group. Vocational School of Health Services Medical Laboratory Techniques Program faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meral Yüksel made the opening speech of the "third" training. In the speech, while emphasizing the importance of the pre-analytical phase for the correct results of laboratory studies, he stated that "blood collection-phlebotomy" is considered as a separate profession in many parts of the world. He explained that Phlebotomy is also included in the job descriptions and duties of the students who graduate from the Medical Laboratory Technician Program.

The trainings  were carried out by Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University faculty member Prof. Dr. Fehime Benli Aksungar and S.B. Ankara Oncology Hospital Specialist Dr. Çiğdem Sönmez. The presentations focused on "Preanalytical stage and the importance of blood collection", "Basic Anatomy and Physiology of the Blood Collection Area", "Blood Collection Equipment and Features" and "Blood Collection Procedures".

In the afternoon session, a presentation titled "Basic Infection Control" was made by İpek Çınaroğlu, an official of BD Company. The applications were carried out by all students in the "Venous Blood Collection" model through the scenarios realized with the dramatizations of Specialist Çiğdem Sönmez, İpek Çınaroğlu and Merve Tavbatır.
